Top ten things to hope for in ‘The Twilight Saga: Eclipse’ DVD’s deleted or extended scenes

Posted By Tai

This article was posted by Twilight Examiner in June, but I agreed with all of it and hope some of it will apply to the upcoming DVD release:

If you haven’t seen The Twilight Saga: Eclipse yet, do be warned that this is a spoiler-ridden post and you may want to save it for later.

Alright, so we know that David Slade’s revealed at least one deleted scene we should expect to see on an Eclipse DVD, but there are a few other moments that one might hope for on such a feature.

The one we know is coming is the Angela and Bella “jealousy” sequence – where the two discuss Edward’s feelings about Bella’s friendship with Jacob over graduation announcements.

So, putting that one aside, here are ten other moments one might hope to see:

1. “I felt hope”: The Twilight Saga: Eclipse does a nice job of bringing in Jasper’s backstory, for sure. And the chemistry between Jasper (Jackson Rathbone) and Alice (Ashley Greene) is very palatable in both the ending of that story and the fight training sequence. However, a significant quote that Jasper says about finding Alice in Eclipse the book didn’t make the film cut . . . “I felt hope.” It’s certainly forgiveable – especially since we weren’t shirked on the Jasper Whitlock Hale “ma’am”-ness – but it’d be nice to see a fuller account of the Jasper and Alice tale, especially the part where Edward describes their first visit to the Cullen household.

2. Quil and Claire: It’s borderline creepy to some (perhaps outsiders particularly), sure, but it is necessary to make the Renesmee/Jacob dynamic in Breaking Dawn make any sense. InThe Twilight Saga: Eclipse, no mention is made of Quil and his two-year-old imprintee, and something about the situation needs to be elucidated to segue into what comes next in the imprinting world. Otherwise, it’d have to be squeezed into The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, and we’ll be far too busy in Isle Esme for that.

3. “Close the window”: One significant change that The Twilight Saga: Eclipse made to the story of Eclipse is to remove the kidnapping sequence. Yes, Edward’s behavior in these moments is undesirable and it probably was better to shorten it to just the moment where Edward dismembers her car for the sake of film continuity. Still, one line that was removed from this moment was the one in which Edward tells Bella to shut her window if she doesn’t want him to come in due to his behavior. This was important because it showed Edward’s remorse but also illustrated Bella’s understanding when she ends up opening it as wide as it could go. It’d be nice to see this on-screen – unlikely as it may be. Edward isn’t all sunshine and roses in Eclipse, and we need to believe Bella when she says that she “know[s] who he is” to Jacob’s “he isn’t perfect” near the end.

4. Emmett face smash: A few days ago, we learned that at least one portion of The Twilight Saga: Eclipse‘s battle sequence was pared down to appease the MPAA and maintain a PG-13 rating: an Emmett face smash that David Slade described as “the face kind of breaks off into pieces of crystal that shatter.” That’s something I’d like to see for sure . . . even if it meant buying an unrated DVD.

5. Jacob and Bella post-punch: The cut from Bella punching Jacob in the face and hurting her hand to the front yard of Charlie’s house was rather quick in The Twilight Saga: Eclipse. I rather enjoyed it in the book when Bella gets fierce with the smug Jacob and calls him a dog. Of course, in the film, Edward is a bit more frantic in his threats than he was in the book, so that eliminates the possibility for some of the best zingers in this portion of the story, but there still could’ve been more in between these two moments. If there was, it’d be good to see on DVD.

Five things to look forward to from The Eclipse’ DVD release

Posted By Tai

Although a date has not yet been set for the release of Eclipse on DVD -  we can roughly guess that film should hitBlu-Ray & DVD  sometime in the fall/winter time frame (*keeping fingers crossed*). In the meantime, here are a few things to get us even more excited for when the film is finally released on DVD:

1. DVD release parties: When Twilight and The Twilight Saga: New Moon were released to DVD/Blu-Ray, Borders, Blockbuster, Walmart, and others threw midnight DVD release parties across the country, and several of the parties included guest appearances by the cast and filmmakers. With The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, no doubt, there’ll be similar festivities arranged to ring in the occasion! It should be interesting to see who makes a stop where this time around.

2. Unlimited viewing: Almost every Twilight fan I know has seen each of the Twilight series films more than once, and sometimes, the viewing numbers can be upwards of dozens of times per person – whether to revisit the smaller details of the film or the goofs. Going to the theater to see it as often as one would like, though, can tend to be inconvenient or costly, so having the DVD at home makes the process a little more efficient – especially since it means fans can have a viewing party of their own or even an at-home marathon of the three! Getting the DVD in hand means unlimited, convenient viewing potential, and this is a good thing for those of us who like the see the film often and on our time!

3. Deleted scenes: We’ve already talked about the top ten deleted scenes to look forward to or hope for on a The Twilight Saga: Eclipse DVD, and the director has revealed what fans might expect or hope to see amongst them. Hopefully, the Eclipse DVD can bring us some deleted scenes worth seeing!

**Director David Slade talked about a few things he would like to see or might be seen in the deleted scenes:

“I think we ended up with what was the best of everything. Certain things that were really good just slowed the pace down and we pulled them out.”

“There’s a great scene with Bella (Kristen Stewart) and Angela (Christian Serratos) in her bedroom just talking girl stuff,” he continued. “It was lovely but it just didn’t fit, it just didn’t really work. We took it out and the film flowed better. I know that will be on the DVD.”

He added there is also a “lovely scene” between Bella and her father Charlie (Billy Burke) after the graduation when he expresses his pride at her achievements.

4. Commentary: David Slade has already explained that he has no plans to do a director’s commentary on The Twilight Saga: Eclipse‘s DVD because it just isn’t his way as a filmmaker. While Slade did mention the possibility of making a behind-the-scenes feature book to coincide with the DVD release, it’ll be another (or others, perhaps) that tackle the commentary. No information on who will handle the task has yet been revealed, but a lot of fans are hoping to hear some of the cast on this feature. It should be exciting to hear one way or the other! While fans were absolutely inundated with interviews with the cast prior to the film’s release to theaters, there’s nothing like hearing them talk about the movie as they watch it themselves. It’s always more insightful, and if not, at least it’s entertaining.

Eclipse Box Office Update

Posted by Ginger

The extremely awesome Larry411 has the latest box office numbers for Eclipse, as of Thursday August 26 -

UPDATE THURSDAY, AUGUST 26:

Box office numbers are in for Wednesday, August 25. The Twilight Saga: Eclipse took in another $71,270 from 557 locations for a per theater average of $128, representing a decrease of 5.5% from Tuesday. This adds up to a cumulative domestic total of $297,439,330 after 57 days in release. Adding in overseas returns of $380.6M gives Eclipse a current worldwide total of $678,039,330.

Theater counts for the week of Friday, August 27 – Thursday, September 2 reflect a decrease of 81 for The Twilight Saga: Eclipse to 476 locations, dropping it from #18 to #20.

For those comparing the films in The Twilight Saga, at this point in its release history (after 57 days) New Moon had taken in $291,550,109. Eclipse is now at $297,439,330. Both films hit the $250M mark on the 16th day. The total domestic gross for New Moon was $296,623,634 (after 132 days). Eclipse has now broken that total by $816,696 (after 57 days). The film is now within striking distance of the elusive $300M mark. It needs about $2.56M to get to that number. It took New Moon 22 more days to earn an additional $2.56M after its 57th day, and Eclipse is clearly doing better. On the other hand, New Moon was in 724 theaters after 57 days while Eclipse is dropping to 476 locations tomorrow. Still, even after New Moon’s theater count had dropped to 444 (after 63 days) it still went on to take in another $3.8M. Therefore, it should take no more than one more month for Eclipse to earn another $2.6M and pass $300M.

Now wouldn’t be a bad time to start planning for your DVD release parties. The street dates for Twilight and New Moon were both on day 121 of their theatrical runs (Saturdays). Following that line of thinking, Eclipse’s 121st day will be October 28th, a Thursday. The following Saturday would be October 30th — Halloween weekend. On the other hand, sources have told me that Summit is planning for a holiday season release — some say November while others say Christmas time.
