Interview with Anna Kendrick
Posted By Tai
Twilight fans have known about Anna Kendrick since day one of the franchise (she plays Bella’s school pal, Jessica) but the rest of the world is now catching on.
Last year, she delivered an Oscar-nominated turn opposite George Clooney in ‘Up in the Air’; this week we’ll see her in Edgar Wright’s cult feature, ‘Scott Pilgrim Vs the World’. Now 25, the actress is clearly destined for the big time, with many A-list actors lining up to work with her. Not bad for someone whose dream as a young girl was simply to sing and dance…
Michael Doherty: First of all, belated happy birthday, Anna. Having just reached 25, it must be very gratifying that you’re still able to convincingly pull off teenage roles?
Anna Kendrick: Thank you very much and yes, it is very gratifying! I actually got downgraded from 19 to 18 for this film, so I don’t quite know what that says about me! I feel a little silly but as long as people can still buy me as a teenager, then I’m flattered.
In Scott Pilgrim . . . your character is modeled on the writer’s own sister, Stacy, whom you met before shooting started. Was that a bit weird or a bit daunting?
No, it was really cool. I was a bit nervous about meeting her but she is so lovely. She basically told me that the relationship between Stacy and Scott in the books is the real relationship she has with her own brother. She gave me her Stacy badge to wear from when she worked in The Second Cup, the coffee shop in the movie, so that was cool.
Between this film and the Twilight franchise, you’ve completely captured the fanboy and fangirl markets. I’m assuming it must be difficult for you to walk around any shopping mall in the States?
I don’t know! To be honest, they don’t really say very much in LA because they are too cool for school and don’t want to bother anyone. I do get little girls coming up to me in malls and screaming but generally people are discreet in LA and they will come up to me quietly when I’d be sitting in Starbucks say ‘FYI, congratulations’. That sort of thing.
Looking at your CV, you began life as a musical star and indeed were the second youngest [at 12] performer ever to be nominated for a Tony award on Broadway, for ‘High Society’. When are we going to see you in a musical on screen?
The truth is, I desperately want to do a movie musical but I have to be careful because desperation doesn’t always lead to good choices. I want to do a musical for the right reasons and not just because I’m anxious to perform in one.
At this stage in your career, how is the whole fame thing working out? Are you able to comfortably walk around or are the paparazzi starting to appear?
There was, like, a week around Oscar season where there was a paparazzo outside my house and it was terrifying. It was that moment when you realise, I thought this just happened to other people and yet, I can’t just go outside and say, ‘what the hell are you doing?’ Where I come from, my brother and his friends would beat you to a pulp if you were hanging around his little sister’s house. It was essentially a guy in his 40s stalking a girl in her 20s and in most places, that’s bordering on criminal activity. It was definitely really weird but, touch wood, they’ve left me alone after that. I also think that the more boring you are, the less they follow you, so all I had to do was to be myself for a week and they were like, this girl doesn’t do anything cool!
You did do something very cool with your Twitter page; photographing yourself holding your username (AnnaKendrick47), thereby negating the other 46 false sites in one fell swoop.
That might seem so silly, but I was really proud of myself for thinking of that! I saw a picture once of an actress holding a sign that read, ‘yes, it’s really me’, and I thought that was so clever, but in theory anybody could take that photo and copy it to their site. I don’t come up with many good ideas but that was a killer way to dispel the impostors and all the misinformation on the net.
Speaking of the net, there’s a story doing the rounds that you’re working on the new Tom Cruise movie: is that more misinformation or is it a runner?
No, that’s one of those stories that popped up and is now impossible to take down when it’s out there. The role in question is for Reese Witherspoon but she was not in town for the table read so they asked me to do it. I knew it wasn’t leading to a job but I was happy to be in that company. To be honest, the first rumour wasn’t that I was in the Tom Cruise movie; it was that I was being recruited for Scientology!

Alex Meraz In YRB Magazine
Posted By Tai
YRB Magazine has a brand new article/feature of Twilight Wolf Pack hottie Alex Meraz! Thanks to our buddies over at The Meraz Effect for posting this:

Grooming by Joanna Pensinger
One look at Alex Meraz and you’ll immediately recognize him as Paul, the hot-tempered werewolf in the global phenomenon The Twilight Saga: New Moon and Eclipse. But there’s more to Meraz than his amazingly beefed up body, handsome good looks and piercingly beautiful eyes that have put Twilight fans in a frenzy. As it turns out, this newbie actor is an “artist” in a few different ways.
Most recently, he’s taken up acting and is fiercely pursuing his goal to establish himself as a credible actor in Hollywood. But he’s also a contemporary dancer, breakdancer, martial artist and, first and foremost, a visual artist. Art has and always will be an enduring passion for the 25-year-old from Mesa, Arizona. While his interest in art has its roots in his adolescence, it was his older brother who encouraged Meraz to continue working on his art once he saw how talented his younger brother was.
“My first drawing was of Snoopy that I showed to my older brother,” he recollects. “[He] immediately recognized that something was there and kept pushing me to draw. From there, I’d always draw him things to get his approval to see if he liked it or not. It was sort of that older brother approval that nudged me on more.”
Another inspiration for Meraz’s art came from watching Bob Ross’ The Joy of Paintingon PBS. “Man, that guy was inspiring,” he says of his early art influences. “I remember this one time when I was first starting to get serious with art when I was younger, I actually cut my own hair and taped the strands to twigs to make brushes because I didn’t really have any art supplies as a kid. I then melt my crayons to make paint and use newspaper as my canvas. When my mom came home that day and saw me looking like a sick person with patches in my hair, she knew she’d have to go get me some serious art supplies.”
After acquiring the proper materials, Meraz began to find inspiration in comic books and even created his own strip in junior high, before the height of his art experience in high school while attending the prestigious New School for the Arts in Arizona. “Going to that school really changed my life,” he says. “We were taught advanced art skills, which made me realize art was something I’d always want to do no matter what.”
Learning lines and dimension from nude models and dissecting cadavers to document the body in its truest form, Meraz was more than mesmerized by art. In high school, he practiced techniques that were developed by fine artists from ages past and would spend his free time teaching art to youth at community centers and Native American reservations. “I’m all about giving back,” he explains. When asked what would be the epitome of his success in life and what he’d like to accomplish, he stated that opening up his own community center in Phoenix, Arizona would be a dream come true. “I’m sort of a product of community centers and things like that and would love to have my own center where I employ working artists to do workshops for inner city, minority kids. I know that will only come true if I’m successful as an actor. That would really be the pinnacle of my career.”

Stephenie Meyer thanks Chris Weitz for Michael Sheen, Edward Cullen is kind of a brat, and much more!
Posted By Tai

YES, you might need earmuffs for this episode of as the “fan junket turns.” Stephenie Meyer uses the word brat, flawed, and Edward in the same sentence!!! Kim and I almost fell off the chair. But Stephenie confesses that she still likes Eddie. *wipes sweat from brow* She likes him so much that it was hard for her write him going away in ‘New Moon.’
Edward is Flawed
Twifans.com: Stephenie Meyer talks character development and Edward Cullen by twifans
SM: I had that problem with Edward a lot. In the beginning he was a really, a very strong character. New Moon came about because of his character. I did not want to write him going away, that was not very much fun, but if he hadn’t done that, how could he say he tried everything? He didn’t try everything to save her, if he hadn’t gone away. So that whole book revolved around his (Edward’s) iron nature that he had, that I could not get around. I could not just make him…he was so loathed to destroy her life. There was no way that he was gonna “okay, you’re right. We’ll just hang out.” He’s also such a know-it-all. Bella’s trying to tell him “look, this is something different than we think it is” and he’s “no, I know better….I’m a 110.” He’s kind-of a brat sometimes.
Jane vs. Alice
Twifans.com: Jane vs. Alice by twifans
SM: But think about it. This whole time, Aro is the one person that’s significant in her (Jane) life, besides Alice. But Aro is the one that she always wants to be the favorite of. They have this relationship. She is his prize, she is his jewel. He is unstoppable because of her. Alec and all these people are a big part of it too, but there’s a very strong relationship there. And now he finds a shinier jewel than her, and if she could kill Alice, she’d do it in a heartbeat.
Aro, Caius, & Marcus
Twifans.com talks the Volturi characters and the actors that play them with Stephenie Meyer by twifans
SM: I hate that Jamie Campbell Bower didn’t get as many lines. He is chilling. He actually tried out for Demetri. And he was too scary for Demetri. We were watching it. There was another guy that — Demetri is supposed to be — Charlie (Bewley) was sort-of the in-between. Demetri was supposed to be smoother and calm people down. But then of course, maybe people don’t want to ever have somebody as the peace maker. They want all the tension. So Charlie was scary, but not as scary (laughs) as Jamie. Jamie was CHILL-LING. And that his face took the makeup like nobody else. He has no pores! His skin was perfect! He got in the makeup, and every line he delivered had so much weight. It was like “more, more please.” Caius needs a story.

‘Twilight’ screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg to discuss vampire lore with Stephen King
Posted By Tai
At this year’s New Yorker Festival in New York City,Twilight series screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg will be participating in a discussion panel on the subject of “vampires in popular culture” with none other than Stephen King.
Stephen King has written vampire lore novels before, including Salem’s Lot, and, of course, Melissa Rosenberg has written the screenplays for Twilight, The Twilight Saga: New Moon, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse,The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1, and The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2.
So, in other words, they both have experience in the vampire pop culture field.
Of course, most Twilight fans are hard-pressed to forget Stephen King’s words about Stephenie Meyer, so there is bound to be a bit of dismay over the coupling involved for this panel.
It should be interesting – understatement – to hear how the two approach the issue as it is inevitable that the Twilight series will come up during those discussions. One has to wonder whether Stephen King will be deferential to the Saga‘s success and popularity, or if he will dismiss the Saga altogether and focus on other works of vampire fiction.
In any case, the New Yorker Festival takes place from October 1-3rd, and more information about the event is available here.

Nikki Reed On Rosalie And Bella In ‘Breaking Dawn’: They’re Like A ‘Divorced Couple’
Posted By Tai
Anyone who’s a fan of Bella Swan’s relationship with the Cullen family is in for a twist when “Breaking Dawn” hits theaters next year. Nikki Reed is going to have a lot of room to expand her character Rosalie this time around, as Rosalie and Bella become closer than even Bella and Jacob during” Part 1″ of the two films.
Their bonding started in “Eclipse,” but in “Breaking Dawn” it takes on a whole new dimension as Rosalie completely defends Bella’s decision to have her half-human, half-vampire baby. When MTV caught up with Nikki while she was promoting her upcoming indie, “Last Day of Summer,” she explained the new dynamic to their relationship.
„What is that saying: Nothing makes two people bond more than the hate of another?“ she said. „I kind of feel like that [describes Bella and Rosalie's relationship], but in relation to love in ‘Breaking Dawn,’ because they both love this child so much.“
We already know Nikki’s take on Rosalie’s pro-life stance, but her perspective on Bella and Rosalie’s new-found sisterhood is a bit more interesting, in our opinion.
“I think it’s finally the one thing that’s strong enough to bring them together — their love for this [child]. It’s bizarre,” Nikki said, referencing Bella and Rosalie’s not-too-friendly relationship in the first three “Twilight Saga“ books. “It’s like they learn to co-exist for the sake of the kid, almost like they’re a divorced couple.”
