Eclipse Box Office Update

Posted by Ginger

The extremely awesome Larry411 has the latest box office numbers for Eclipse, as of Thursday August 26 -

UPDATE THURSDAY, AUGUST 26:

Box office numbers are in for Wednesday, August 25. The Twilight Saga: Eclipse took in another $71,270 from 557 locations for a per theater average of $128, representing a decrease of 5.5% from Tuesday. This adds up to a cumulative domestic total of $297,439,330 after 57 days in release. Adding in overseas returns of $380.6M gives Eclipse a current worldwide total of $678,039,330.

Theater counts for the week of Friday, August 27 – Thursday, September 2 reflect a decrease of 81 for The Twilight Saga: Eclipse to 476 locations, dropping it from #18 to #20.

For those comparing the films in The Twilight Saga, at this point in its release history (after 57 days) New Moon had taken in $291,550,109. Eclipse is now at $297,439,330. Both films hit the $250M mark on the 16th day. The total domestic gross for New Moon was $296,623,634 (after 132 days). Eclipse has now broken that total by $816,696 (after 57 days). The film is now within striking distance of the elusive $300M mark. It needs about $2.56M to get to that number. It took New Moon 22 more days to earn an additional $2.56M after its 57th day, and Eclipse is clearly doing better. On the other hand, New Moon was in 724 theaters after 57 days while Eclipse is dropping to 476 locations tomorrow. Still, even after New Moon’s theater count had dropped to 444 (after 63 days) it still went on to take in another $3.8M. Therefore, it should take no more than one more month for Eclipse to earn another $2.6M and pass $300M.

Now wouldn’t be a bad time to start planning for your DVD release parties. The street dates for Twilight and New Moon were both on day 121 of their theatrical runs (Saturdays). Following that line of thinking, Eclipse’s 121st day will be October 28th, a Thursday. The following Saturday would be October 30th — Halloween weekend. On the other hand, sources have told me that Summit is planning for a holiday season release — some say November while others say Christmas time.

Twilight about to eclipse ‘New Moon!’

Posted by Ginger

By Paul Dergarabedian , Hollywood.com Staff | Wednesday, August 18, 2010

Another box office milestone in the “Twilight” saga is about to howl at the moon as Summit Entertainment’s “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse” prepares to suck the life out of its predecessor’s revenue generating superiority.
$296,623,634 is the total final domestic box office for “New Moon.”  Through Tuesday, August 17 its successor, “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse” has a running total of $296,268,343 – a difference of $355,291.  Here is the breakdown: earlier this week “Eclipse” earned $214,712 on Monday, August 16 and $211,187 on Tuesday, August 17.

If we conservatively put Wednesday’s gross at $200,000 and another $200,000 on Thursday, the film will surpass its box office brethren this Thursday.  This is no small feat considering that “Eclipse” is the third film in the series, opened in the much more competitive summer movie season (the first two films opened in late November) and had a first weekend gross ($64.8 million) that was smaller than “New Moon’s” first day!

Clearly “New Moon” was no slouch at the box office when it debuted in late November of 2009 and it still holds the distinction of generating biggest single-day gross in history with $72.7 million, the third biggest weekend opening ever with $142.8 million and had the biggest opening weekend of any film released last year.

And even though these two films share much of the same cinematic DNA, their box office trajectory could not be more different.  Notably, “New Moon’s” theatrical run was super front loaded with a final domestic total that was just 2 times its opening weekend gross of $142,839,137 whereas “Eclipse’s” running total will be 4.5 times its $64.8 million weekend debut.

The three main stars of the “Twilight” saga, Robert PattinsonKristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner have all been richly rewarded for their role in all of this success (a $25 million payday awaits each for “Breaking Dawn”) and rightly so; this is probably one of the few instances where the stars are just as essential to the film’s success as the concept and are clearly worth their collective weight in box office gold.

For more on “Twilight” read my story from last June entitled The Twilight Saga is set for a total eclipse of the box office excerpted in part below:

“The Twilight Saga” has already established itself as one of the most successful movie franchises in box-office history and when the film opens on Wednesday, June 30, that reputation should be further solidified with huge lines of fans, press reports of fan fever, strong reviews and mind-blowing box-office numbers.  All that and then we have “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn” to look forward to on November 18, 2011.

Anna Kendrick in ‘Interview’ Magazine

ANNA KENDRICK AT THE BOWERY HOTEL IN NEW YORK PHOTOS BY JACK SIEGEL

Taglined “An epic of epic epicness,” director Edgar Wright’s adaptation of Bryan Lee O’Malley’s popular comic book series, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, hits theaters with Biblical force this Friday. Archetypal awkward youth Michael Cera plays the titular character, a 22-year-old bass player who falls in love with a girl only to learn that she has seven evil ex-boyfriends, all of whom are hell-bent on killing him. Anna Kendrick, who plays Scott’s reliable sister Stacey, says her character is “the voice in the back of [Scott's] head that he knows he’s not going to listen to.” We spoke to Kendrick about filming Scott Pilgrim, Comic Con, and Twilight mania (or lack thereof).

CAROLINE BANKOFF: Hello, Anna! Where are you calling from?

ANNA KENDRICK: I’m in Toronto. We have the Toronto premiere of Scott Pilgrim tonight–we filmed it in Toronto, so it’s a homecoming of sorts.

BANKOFF: How’s your summer been so far? What have you been up to?

KENDRICK: I don’t know, really. Just kind of doing the press tour and stuff. And watching a lot of movies.

BANKOFF: And you just went to Comic Con to promote Scott Pilgrim, right?

KENDRICK: Yeah. It was great; it was amazing. I mean, the film is obviously for comic fans, and they seemed to love it, which is a huge relief. Those are your toughest critics, in a way.

BANKOFF: Had you ever been to Comic Con before?

KENDRICK: I’d been with New Moon. That wasn’t really the same because we didn’t get to really go and experience Comic Con. So, this was the first time that I really got the full experience.

BANKOFF: What was the most interesting thing you saw there?

KENDRICK: The Tron bike looked really cool, and it was just great to see a lot of people being in cosplay ["costume role play"].  A lot of people who are not in their element in real life really shine there, and that’s cool.

BANKOFF: Are you into comic books?

KENDRICK: I stole comic books from my brother when I was a kid, but I was never like an avid fan. I can’t claim to be like a comic book geek.

BANKOFF: Have you gotten more into it since doing Scott Pilgrim?

KENDRICK: Um… no. I mean, obviously I read the series, and Hope Larson, [Scott Pilgrim author] Brian Lee O’Malley’s wife, gave me her book and I’m reading that now—it’s really cool.

BANKOFF: What was the shooting process for Scott Pilgrim like? Can you tell me a little bit about the process of filming, like working with Michael [Cera] or any stories from the set?

KENDRICK: It was definitely really kind of odd and technical, because of the way that it looks. The process was definitely unlike anything I’ve ever done before. Like there’s a scene where I’m on the phone with Michael Cera, and we had to do a split screen, so I had a little earpiece in my ear. I was listening to the footage that he’d already shot, and I just had to like fit my lines into the space in between his lines.

BANKOFF: Twilight: Eclipse came out earlier this summer. Are those releases extra stressful for you, because they’re so high-profile?

KENDRICK: Now I know what I’m doing, so it’s easier. With any other movie, you’re entering new territory, so it’s quite different to be involved in something where it’s the same characters, and the same people. You know what to expect out of the premieres and the press and stuff. So it’s actually kind of nice, because you don’t get very much routine in this job, and it’s actually sort of interesting. It’s like an annual party or something.

BANKOFF: Have you guys started doing any work on filming…?

KENDRICK: On Breaking Dawn? I know nothing. I literally know nothing.
